The  City of Danville Human Relations Commission will sponsor “The Mayor and City
Council’s Coffee Hour” on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30
p.m.  This event will be held at the Municipal Building (City Hall), Lower Level, at 17 West Main Street. 
 
The  purpose of this event is to give citizens the opportunity to meet the Mayor, City Council Members (Aldermen) and other City officials, learn about City services, and have a one-on-one conversation with City officials. Also,  refreshments will be served.

You are cordially invited to attend an informational open house held by the
City of Danville discussing the  feasibility of grade separating (building a bridge or underpass)  Bowman Avenue at the Norfolk Southern and CSX railroads at some time in the future.  Please note that this is a feasibility  study and not an active project for the
City of Danville.  This is a planning level study focused on identifying what
these projects might entail and the potential impacts.

 All persons interested in this project are invited to attend this meeting.

 The meeting will include a presentation of the feasibility study results. A
formal presentation will be made by the study team at 4:30 PM and repeated at 6:00 PM.

 Representatives from the City of Danville and the City’s consultant will be
available to discuss the project, answer questions and receive comments. Exhibits will be on display. 

Comments can be submitted at the meeting verbally, in writing or mailed in
after the meeting. All comments submitted will become a part of the public record for the project. Deadline for comments is March 29, 2012.

This hearing will be accessible to handicapped individuals. Persons planning
to attend who will need a sign language interpreter, other similar accommodations or any special assistance,  should notify the Department at least five days prior to the meeting by contacting David Schnelle, City  Engineer at (217) 431-2384. Questions regarding the project or the meeting can be directed to Mr.  Schnelle at the City or to me, the

Bridge repairs are scheduled for Wednsesday on North Bowman Avenue just north of Liberty Lane. 
 
 
A Public meeting for the Phase II of the Bowman Avenue project has been set for Thursday February 2, 2012 at the public works facility.   The meeting will be an open house format from 4 PM to 7 PM and is being done to  inform the public of the project and to gather their comments / concerns.  
 
The  proposed improvements along this section of Bowman Avenue generally consist of
widening the roadway from the existing three lane section north of Crestview  Drive north to Holiday Drive, with the addition of curb and gutter and  overlaying the pavement throughout the project.  Improvements also include  a bus turnout on the east side of Bowman Avenue south of Garden Drive, a storm  sewer system to convey water away from the roadway, a bike path between Winter 
venue and Holiday Drive on the west side, the extension of a sidewalk from
Holiday Drive down to the existing sidewalk along the west side of the road and
the use of urban mailbox turnouts to maintain mail delivery
service.

 
 
City of Danville Public Works announces that Collett  Street south of Brook Street will be closed for tree removal operations during  portions of the day from Monday, January 23, 2012 through Wednesday, January  25, 2012, weather permitting.   Street Division crews will perform tree trimming and removal at the  Collett Street Bridge between Brook St. and English St., which will require the  closure of Collett Street from 9AM until 1PM each day. 
 Motorists are urged to plan  accordingly and use other routes of travel during those times.    For more information,  please contact the Public Works Department at    431-2288.
