City of Danville, Illinois

Danville Public Works and the Danville Sanitary District have partnered to financially assist homeowners in eliminating basement sewer backups by creating an overhead sewer program.  The program replaces gravity drains in basements with an ejector pump system.  Qualifying homeonwers can receive up to 50% of the cost of the system through the City and Sanitary District.  To learn more, visit our Sewers Department.

Lynch Road is now open to traffic and work on Jackson Street is complete.  Thank you for your patience.

The City of Danville announces that the Lynch Spur will  be closed to traffic for the CSX railroad crossing replacement beginning  Tuesday, November 8.  Lynch Spur
will remain closed until the completion of the project which is scheduled to end
Friday, November 18, weather pending.  Traffic from the west will be able to
reach Thyssen Krupp.  Traffic from  the east will be able to reach Autozone.
Traffic should detour around the closure using Main, Bowman, and Voorhees
Streets.

The  City also announces that the Jackson Street overlay is scheduled to begin
Monday, November 7.  Traffic will  be limited to one lane in locations between Voorhees and Ridgeview and long  delays should be expected.   Motorists should seek alternate routes to avoid the construction. Work on Jackson should be completed by
Friday, November 12, weather pending.

The  City of Danville invites the public to participate in improving Jackson
Street.  A public meeting will be  held at the American Legion on Jackson Street beginning at 6 PM on Wednesday  October 26, 2011, which we hope interested residents will attend.

At  the last public meetings we gathered information and opinions from our residents
and users of Jackson Street on how they would like to see it improved.  Key items they asked the City to focus on include:

  • The overall need to improve the condition of the street,
    curbs,     and sidewalks.

  • Reduce vehicle speeds and
    noise

  • Protect walkers and bicycles, provide for the ability for
families     to walk and ride without competing with
    traffic

  • Improve the intersection of Jackson and
    Voorhees

  • Neighborhood preservation through improving the
    appearance of     Jackson Street

  • Account for school related
    traffic

At  this meeting we will update the public on findings from a traffic study that was
performed at Northridge and Edison among other schools and how that affects
plans for Jackson Street.  We will  also discuss how the project can be
funded.

In  order to move forward, City staff needs the community’s input and help. Plans for accommodating parking and the  intersection of Jackson and Voorhees need to be finalized.   The City has designed a new intersection there as both a roundabout and a
traditional all-way stop intersection as a result of previous public
involvement.
