1.The City will be placing an order for a fully automated collection vehicle this summer. The goals are to improve community appearance and image by reducing the amount of litter. To provide residential customers with uniform, rigid containers durable enough to withstand elements and animal intrusion. And decrease labor requirements and increase efficiency. Informational flyers and complete instructions will be delivered with your new Toter.

2. All containers previously sold by the City can be used in a fully-automated collection system.

3. You can give them away, resell them, or give them to the Solid Waste Division for re-distribution to others needing additional containers. If you would like for us to dispose of your old container, place the empty container upside down with a note on it and set it out on your regular collection day.

4. Technically the City owns them. The 10 year warranty is provided to the City, and all defects must be corrected through the City.

5. The Toter issued should stay with the property. We will be tracking by serial numbers that correspond with the address. It will be the responsibility of all landlords and home-buyers to make sure the container remains with the property. New customers will be responsible for buying new containers if they are not included with the property.

6. We expect delivery of the new toters late summer to early fall. If you know you would like to order an additional toter, please let us know. We will sell the toters at cost (Currently $37.00 for 48 gallon and $47.50 for 96 gallon).

7. If you choose to buy them somewhere else, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure they can be used with a fully-automated system. The City DOES NOT guarantee that they will work nor would these units be covered by our warranty.

8. We are simply trying to provide information, answer questions, and determine how many customers want the smaller (48 gallon) container, or a 2nd or 3rd container.

9. NOTHING! Your first FREE 96 gallon Toter will be delivered to you!

10. If you want one 48 gallon container in place of the 96 gallon container, it will be delivered at no additional cost but you DO NEED to order it through the established procedures.

11. Toters are now on display at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building, 17 W. Main Street. We may have additional locations at a later time.

12. Additional toters may be pre-ordered through the department, or may be purchased at a later date, if available.

13. Not after October 2007. These cans can be used for yardwaste with an approved sticker until 2011.

14. All toters are tracked by serial number and address. The City will assist, to the degree possible, in identifying toters that are not at the assigned address and help determine where they should be. Customers will be responsible for having their waste in an approved container and are required to replace them if they disappear. You can help minimize this problem by keeping your toter in a secure area during normal use, and by retrieving them as soon as possible after collection.

15. Not on the outside. You may do so on the inside lid or inside the container. Only City-issued stickers may be applied to the outside of the container.
