City of Danville Brownfields Initiative
Welcome to the website for the City of Danville Brownfields Initiative. The purpose of this website is to provide the citizens of the City of Danville a better understanding on brownfields and on the work to be carried out through this grant work. This website will allow you to track the progress and provide input on the direction of this important initiative.
The City of Danville was awarded a United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Communitywide Brownfield Assessment Grant in 2011. This grant work will involve creating an inventory of suspected brownfield sites, conducting assessment work on some of the sites identified, and then planning for the cleanup of a portion of the sites that will be assessed, with the ultimate goal of getting the sites cleaned up and ready for redevelopment.
A brownfield is defined by USEPA as a property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Cleaning up and reinvesting in these properties protects the environment, reduces blight, and takes development pressures off greenspaces and working lands.
The City of Danville has retained the services of Fehr-Graham & Associates to assist in conducting this work. Fehr-Graham & Associates has worked in other similar communities throughout the Midwest addressing brownfield sites and their knowledge and expertise will be invaluable in ensuring that this initiative is successsful.
