Information Technology
The Information Technology department is directly involved in the day to day operations of every aspect of City services.
The Information Technology (IT) Department coordinates computer and telecommunication activities. This includes the purchase of computer hardware and software, cell phones, wireless technology, and VOIP telephones. The IT Department also oversees the repairs of computer hardware and telecommunication equipment. The department maintains a local area network of servers, including 2 exchange servers, and 10 servers throughout the city. The IT department has continued to work on connecting all outside buildings through wireless technology. Currently, the 4 Fire Stations, Motor Vehicle Parking System, Public Works Garage, Harrison Park Golf Course, Parks and Recreation, the Police Department, and Mass Transit are connected to the main server through wireless technology. This allows all city users to share resources and connect all of their buildings to our local area network and gain Internet access from one focal point.
The department also supports many software systems including CCS financial data software, Accela Permits Plus, Firehouse, Cisco Public Safety software, DataCard Photo ID system, ALERTS, ALECS, and many, many more. The staff acts as a help desk and provides support to city employees in various applications such as Microsoft products including Exchange, Windows Server 2003, Windows OS, Office XP, etc.
Today, the City of Danville has over 200 computers, 10 local area network servers, 2 Exchange servers, and over 50 printers.
As technology rapidly changes, the IT staff is continually learning and growing.
