The Information Technology division is directly involved in the day to day operations of every aspect of City services. The Information Technology (IT) Division coordinates computer and telecommunication activities. This includes the purchase of computer hardware and software, cell phones, wireless technology, and IP telephones. The IT Division also oversees the repairs of computer hardware and telecommunication equipment. The division maintains a local and wide area network of servers, including Email Servers, and multiple servers throughout the city. The IT division has continued to work on connecting all outside buildings through high speed technology. Currently, the 4 Fire Stations, Motor Vehicle Parking System, Public Works Garage, Harrison Park Golf Course, Parks and Recreation, the Police Department, and Mass Transit are connected to the main server through broadband technology. This allows all city users to share resources and connect all of their buildings to our local area network and gain Internet access from one focal point.
The division also supports many software systems including ERP financial data system, Accela Permits Plus, Firehouse, Cisco Public Safety software, Photo ID system, ALERTS, LEADS, and many more. The IT staff acts as a help desk and provides support to city employees in various applications such as Microsoft software including, but not limited to Exchange, Windows Servers, and Office.
Today, the City of Danville has over 150 computers, 10 local area networks, 30 virtualized servers, and over 75 printers.
As technology rapidly changes, it is the IT staff's responsibility to adapt with it.
